Root Canal (Endodontic Therapy):
What is root canal treatment (RCT)?
When the pulp tissue inside the tooth has been injured, either by decay or trauma, it can cause infection and destruction of the bone around the root of the tooth. RCT is the process of cleaning out the inside of the tooth (the canals) and filling them to prevent bacteria from re-entering. An opening is made in the crown of your tooth to give the dentist access to work inside, then covered by a temporary filling between visits. Treatment usually requires from one to three appointments. RCT can often save a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted.Surgeries Related to Root Canals:What is apicoectomy surgery?
There are some cases that conventional RCT will not resolve or are not physically possible to accomplish. An apicoectomy is the process of going directly to the end of the root to seal it, rather than going inside the tooth.
